Rosamund Muir is redefining sustainable luxury with a colourful, sophisticated aesthetic and a uniquely British twist. Originally from Northumberland, Rosamund lived in Italy, Switzerland and France before moving to London to work in Design and Advertising. On becoming a busy Mum of three, she decided to follow her passion for shoes, training at London College of Fashion in Footwear Design and Pattern Making.
The experience of rushing around London combined with becoming a mother helped to shape the foundations of the brand, and Rosamund has a deep understanding of the importance of a comfortable heel. “A huge amount of thought has gone into the comfort of our shoes, with lasts developed over months and rigorous road-testing. Our offer is simultaneously chic and adventurous, but always with comfort at its core.” says Rosamund.
Rosamund Muir designs with women in mind, creating beautiful shoes with an enduring spirit. Using strong women as daily inspiration, Rosamund Muir celebrates female empowerment, producing luxurious handmade footwear that is comfortable, beautiful and designed to be worn with confidence.
Each pair of Rosamund Muir shoes is lovingly handcrafted from start to finish, using traditional and sustainable practices. Rosamund Muir’s signature use of dual materials & textures combines premium calf hair with the finest nappa leathers, the softest of suedes with the sleekest of patents. A bold & characterful colour palette is paired with thoughtfully sculpted heels, and the iconic cone & block heel silhouettes offer flawless comfort with no compromise on style.
The brand champions empowerment and self-expression – these are shoes with unrivalled personality. Determined to work with the highest level of craftsmanship, Rosamund scoured Europe to find the finest artisans committed to sustainable practices and the delicate art of shoemaking. Masters of their craft, our small atelier team of artisans have undergone years of expert training, working with some of the world’s leading luxury brands. All of our leathers are a naturally sustainable by-product sourced from the best Italian tanneries and processed using traditional techniques to produce the finest Nappa leathers, softest suedes and calf hair. Leathers are ordered in small batches when required, and our expert cutters ensure every part of the leather is utilised, with offcuts donated to local schools for crafts and creative activities. Each shoe comes to life in our small atelier, where the leather is hand-cut, sewn, and the heel is positioned in place before being placed on a last for several days to set the unique shape and form. This process takes minutes in a designer factory, but our artisanal methods produce a noticeable difference in luxury and quality, creating shoes to last a lifetime. The care and attention that goes into our footwear are second to none, with each pair taking around seven days to make before being personally inspected by Rosamund.
At Rosamund Muir we have weaved sustainability into the foundations of our business since the very beginning - the core of our decision making is based on a consciousness for the planet, and a drive to keep sustainability at the forefront of everything we do. We promote a slow fashion ethos, manufacturing our footwear in small batches to avoid any over production. We work closely with the small atelier who handmake our shoes, ensuring ethical practices are observed and our sustainability commitments are consistently upheld.
During our small batch production process, we operate a zero waste policy, with leathers being expertly hand cut by artisans to ensure each piece is utilized to its maximum potential. Any remaining offcuts are then donated to a local school for craft projects. Since conception our leathers have all been 100% by-product, and we have made further, exciting developments on this front through thorough research into suppliers – we’re now working with a premium Italian deadstock leather supplier and are proud to say that approximately 80% of our current production utilizes deadstock leathers that would otherwise have been sent to landfill. We also use wooden heels where possible in the design of our shoes as the most eco-friendly option currently on the market. Our packaging is eco-friendly and 100% plastic free with recycled cardboard boxes & organic cotton shoe bags, and we’re striving for further improvements having recently found a recycled tissue paper manufacturer in the UK. Each season we support a chosen charity, most noticeably with the Montana Hope Sandal Collection that was developed during the pandemic with a percentage of proceeds being donated to support the NHS.
